Boehner Urges President to Act on Youth Illegal Immigration

Speaker of the House John Boehner (R., Ohio) sent a letter to the president today calling for immediate action to address the illegal immigration of unaccompanied minors.
Boehner asked the president to implement procedures that would ensure the safety of the unaccompanied minors found at the border and return them to their families.
“The policies of your administration have directly resulted in the belief by these immigrants that once they reach U.S. soil, they will be able to stay here indefinitely,” Boehner wrote. “There are several steps that we call on you and your administration to take immediately to enforce our laws, stem the tide of migrants, protect the victims, and ensure that these individuals are dealt with in a humane manner that is consistent with American ideals of compassion and family unity. The safety of these migrant children is a matter of paramount importance.”
Boehner suggested that the president deploy the National Guard to the southern border to deal specifically with the unaccompanied minors in order to relieve border patrol. He also recommended that the United States begin discussions with Guatemala, El Salvador, and Honduras to guarantee that the minors are reunited with their families.
